Day 1 -

Our first day dawned clear and mild. We drove off through clear mountain
vistas as headed for Fort Vancouver, WA. |

The rains began as we neared Fort Vancouver assuring us of a peaceful
visit with no crowds. Sam & Sarah enjoyed the blacksmith and the French
Canadian workers from the Hudson's Bay Company who spoke to them in French
and asked if they had come here on the Oregon Trail. |
| The rains followed us through the columbia river Gorge making the
winding roads a bit more exciting. The view from Crown Point was, in Sam's
words "just GORGEOUS." |

We stopped at Multnomah Falls and hiked up to the viewing bridge to
hear the roar of falls taller than Niagra. |
A four mile ascent brought us to our campground, perched atop the side
of the gorge, with peacocks to serenade us to sleep.
