We started off the day with a trip to the "Grand Canyon" of Yellowstone. Here the Yellow colored rocks on the sides of the canyon explain why this park was named Yellowstone. The Yellowstone river runs through the canyon and you can see the upper falls in the background of this picture. |
Here's another view of the Canyon and you can see some of the many colors in the rocks. The coloration is caused by mineral reactions and algaes which are affected by the thermal nature of the park. |

Next we saw a herd of Elk grazing in a field just off the road. |
We decided to go out for lunch when we reached the Mammoth Hot Springs and here we see that even Moms get to take a vacation once in a while. (I did all the driving that day) |

Sammy really enjoyed the coloring of the animals on the childrens menu at the restaurant. Also, the waiter did great cartoon character impressions and both kids really got into that. |
After lunch, Sarah decided to make a new Pose. Here she is modeling her latest spring wardrobe. We don't know what inspired this, but she insisted on climbing up and down those stairs and each time she got to the bottom, she would cross her legs and pose. Maybe she's practicing for some future career... |

After lunch, the kids enjoyed watching the Tower Falls and of course, playing in the snow. Sarah insisted that we carry her a lot whenever we stopped at a view point, but we convinced her to walk it herself, knowing that she would sleep well that night. (sometimes even while we're driving between sites, she'd take a nap) |
